Friday Newsletter: Christmas Craft Fair | School Directory | CPF & more!

Dear parents,

  • Save the Date!  This year’s Christmas Craft Fair will be held on December 6.  Stay tuned for more details.
  • The School Directory is a useful resource for getting in touch with other parents and families.  It hasn’t come out this year yet, as it needs a volunteer to take it on.  This is a job someone could do from home in their spare time.  There’s a template that’s ready to go and the office has all the data ready to input.  If you can help, please get in touch with Sarah Dennis.
  • Ms Vicki Thomas’ English 5/6 class still needs a class rep.  If you have a child in this class, please consider taking on this very important role.
  • “Surviving French Immersion: A Workshop for Parents of Intermediate Students” takes place this Thursday, October 24th at Cleveland Elementary, 7:00pm. Join CPF North Vancouver for this interactive workshop with Susan Owens, a noted French Immersion teacher with the North Vancouver School District. Mme Owens will share her knowledge and provide tips and resources for parents of Intermediate-age French Immersion students. For more info, click here. To register, click here.

IT Cheque-writing Campaign, School Directory & Lice 911 Workshop!

Hello parents at Ross Road,

A few quick notices to help you stay organized in this busy month:

  1. IT purchase cheque-writing campaign: A few people have very sensibly asked us who to write the cheque out to…thank you to those discerning parents! :) Our apologies for not writing this info on the form! Please make cheques payable to ‘Ross Road School PAC!’ We would like all payments to come in before February 20, so we can purchase the equipment and be ready to use it after Spring Break. Donations can be deposited in the locked PAC drop box in the lobby or handed in directly to the office.
  2. School Directory: Just a friendly reminder to those of you who would still like to donate a small amount for the School Directory (suggested donation $5). Donations can be dropped off in the locked PAC drop box in the lobby.
  3. Lice 911 Workshop: Whether or not you’ve experienced the dreaded “LICE” in your household, please come to this FREE workshop to find out more about how we can PREVENT the spread of Lice in our children’s hair. Until we ALL know how to look for lice and do it frequently, this problem will not stop.
    • Wednesday, February 15th
    • 7:00 pm
    • in the library

Many Thanks,
Ross Road PAC

2011-12 School Directory goes home with students

The 2011-12 School Directory will be sent home with the youngest child in each family on Friday, Jan. 20

Ross Road PAC is pleased to announce the publication of the 2011-12 Ross Road School Directory!

  • The School Directory is a project of the Ross Road Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and is intended as a resource for students and parents of École Ross Road School. Even in this technological age, it’s great to have a printed publication to refer to in order to quickly get in touch with other parents, so we hope you find it useful!
  • The Directory lists student names by division, along with an alphabetical listing of Ross Road families and their contact info.
  • The Directory is published every 2 years – this Directory will be continue to be used throughout the 2012-13 school year as well.

The School Directory is offered to parents as a community service, however a nominal donation per family would be appreciated!

  • The cost of printing and binding the Directory is funded by the PAC, paid advertisements (placed by Ross Road parents and other businesses in the community), and donations. All profits raised from the sale of the Directories go back to the school.
  • PLEASE DROP OFF YOUR DONATION (SUGGESTED $5 PER FAMILY) IN THE PAC DROP-BOX (under the “down” stairs in the school lobby)
  • Please include your donation (cash, or cheque made out to Ross Road PAC) in an envelope (with “PAC Directory” and your family name written on the front) and drop it off in the PAC Drop-Box (under the “down” stairs in the school lobby)

Thank you for your patience, and support! Enjoy your Directory!
–Ross Road PAC

Last chance to be included in the Ross Road School Directory!

Click on the image to download the PAC Contact Permission Form

At the beginning of the school year, the PAC sent out a Contact Permission Form  to every Ross Road family, via the school office email system. The contact information collected from each form is used to create the 2011-12 School Directory, which is approaching the final stages of production. We have had a great response and would like to thank everyone who took the time to fill out the form.

There are still a few families who have not submitted their forms, and while inclusion in the directory is completely optional, we just wanted to make sure that we weren’t leaving out anyone!

There has been some confusion about the similarities of the school’s consent form and the PAC Contact Permission Form. Ross Road School and the Ross Road PAC use different communication networks and, for privacy reasons, we have to collect contact information separately.

Please click here to download the PAC Contact Permission Form. Fill it out and drop it off in the PAC Drop-Box (under the down stairs in the school lobby).
Hard copies are also available on the shelf next to the office window in the school lobby.

If you could return the form by Friday, November 4th at the very latest, that would fantastic! Even if you DO NOT want to be included in the 2011 School Directory, we would appreciate it if you could return your form and indicate this preference!

Advertising opportunities in the Ross Road School Directory

The Ross Road School Directory is a great opportunity to advertise your business or service, and support your children’s school at the same time! There are several different ad formats to choose from, ranging from a business card size to a full page ad. Click here for more info about the School Directory.

Formats and prices:

  • 1/3 page (4.5″ wide x 2″ tall – roughly a business card size): $30.00
  • 1/2 page (4.5″ wide x 3.75″ tall): $50
  • Full page: (4.5″ wide  x 7″ tall): $100

Acceptable file formats:

  • It is preferred that ads be submitted by email in a digital format: PDF, EPS and TIF files are ideal. JPG files are acceptable, as long as they are high resolution.
  • Files must be the highest resolution possible for the best print quality. Images downloaded from websites are usually low-res and will not print clearly. As the directory is printed in black and white, greyscale ads with good contrast are recommended.
  • Please contact the Directory committee if you have any questions about file formats:
    rrpacdirectory@gmail.com

Deadline for submissions:

  • Friday, November 4th
  • Please email ad files to this email address: rrpacdirectory@gmail.com

Payment:

  • Please write a cheque payable to “Ross Road PAC” and leave in PAC drop-box in school lobby (under the “Down” stairs). Please reference the School Directory, and the ad you are paying for.

Thank you for your support!

School Directory Project: Seeking Volunteers and Advertisers!

First of all, thank you so much for returning your PAC Contact Permission Forms!  (It’s not too late to submit them! Click here for more info!)

Data Entry Volunteers
The School Directory team is looking for a few more parents to help enter all the data on these forms, and also to help with communicating with advertisers. The sooner we get all the data entered, the sooner we can get email lists to the Class Reps and get the the Directory published, so we’d really appreciate a few extra helpers!

If you are interested, and have some experience with spreadsheets, editing/proof-reading and Excel/Word, please contact Lynda Faivre-Duboz as soon as possible at: rrpacdirectory@gmail.com

2011-12 School Directory

2009-2010 Ross Road School Directory

Thank you for taking the time to fill out the PAC Contact Permission Form! (Click here for more details about the form). As indicated on the form, the contact details collected from the submitted forms will be used to create a Parent Email Network (used by Class Reps to contact parents) and also a School Directory, a very handy printed resource!

For new parents at Ross Road School, here is some more information about the School Directory:

  • The School Directory is a project of the Ross Road Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and is intended as a resource for students and parents of École Ross Road School. Even in this technological age, it’s great to have a printed publication to refer to in order to quickly get in touch with other parents!
  • The Directory lists student names by division, along with an alphabetical listing of Ross Road families, their home addresses and their phone numbers.
  • The Directory is published every 2 years – the last directory was published in 2009, so this is the year for a new one!
  • It is also intended as a small fundraiser for the school.  The cost of printing and binding the Directory is funded by the PAC, business sponsors (parent and other), and a nominal copy charge or donation. Once the Directory is printed and binded, all profits raised from the sale of the Directories go back to the school.

The information contained in the Directory is compiled in cooperation with École Ross Road School administration. Your individual consent to be included in this Directory is required. The Directory will only be used for school community use and will not be distributed outside the school population or used for any commercial, political, or other purposes.

PAC Contact Permission Form – please fill out and return by Tuesday, September 20th

Gillian G, dropping off her completed form in the PAC drop-box under the Down stairs in the school lobby – it's that easy, folks! ;-)

Last week, the school office sent an email to every Ross Road family containing the 2011-12 PAC Contact Permission Form in electronic format (Adobe PDF).

The PAC (Parent Advisory Council) is distributing this form in an electronic format so that it may independently obtain parent contact information and get class lists distributed to Class Reps as quickly as possible.

The contact information collected from each form is used to set up a Parent Email Network and to create a School Directory.

Please print out and fill out the form on page 2 of the 2011-12 PAC Contact Permission Form and return to the PAC drop-box in the school lobby (under the “Down” stairs) by Tuesday, September 20th.

A few notes:

  • Only one form needs to be filled out per family
  • Please print clearly
  • Please use the Comments box at the bottom of the form if you wish to include additional information/instructions
  • Hard copies of this form may be obtained at the school office
  • Please return this form even if you do not want to receive PAC email communications and do not want to be included in the 2011 School Directory
