Bike to School Week – May 27 – 31
With beautiful Spring weather it’s time to get your bikes out and start biking to school!
Bike to school week this year is May 27th through the 31st. Bike trips to school will be recorded in each classroom and the primary & intermediate class with the most trips will be awarded a class GOLF LESSON!!!
On Monday Morning May 27th, bike to school early at 8am and participate in our opening Bike Rodeo and biking games. Lynn Valley Bikes will be there for free tune-up, Wade Simmons will be demo’ing jumps, and Escape will have ramps & ladders set up!
Monday & Tuesday – Kindergarden students through grade 5 will attend biking sessions on the field with Escape Adventures. **Parents – in order for ALL students to participate in this activity, we will be asking anyone who can loan their bike throughout the day to another student to see ESCAPE adventures in the morning to have a ribbon tied on your bike. ESCAPE will store these bikes on the field and keep watch over them during the day and fit any students who don’t have a bike to them so everyone can participate!!!
Velodrome Field Trips – All grade 6 & 7’s will participate in a field trip to the Burnaby Velodrome – field trip information has already been sent home from your students teacher, don’t forget to fill out the online waiver to participate in this event.
Wrap up the week by biking with your family to SPRINGfest! Prizes from bike to school week will be announced and handed out at SpringFEST.
If you live far from the school, consider driving part way and biking the rest! And TEACHERS… your trips count! Any ties this year will be decided by teacher trips.

Staff Appreciation Lunch
The annual Staff Appreciation Lunch is coming up Tuesday, June 11. This year, the GRADE ONE classes are tasked with coordinating the event…with lots of help from the PAC Executive.
Please email email@example.com if your child is in Grade 1 and you can help out with the planning and coordination of this event.
As parents, we recognize how hard teachers and other staff work every day so the PAC would like to treat them to a buffet lunch in the gym. This event has been a long-standing Ross Road tradition and we’d like to keep it going. The appreciation lunch takes place in the school gym over lunch hour; all food and gifts are donated by parents from all grades. Approximately 50 people are invited, including all teachers, aides, administration and support staff. The PAC has a modest budget that will be used toward some items, but we really need your help to make this a meaningful “thank you” event.
How you can help
We are working on sign-up sheets for the following:
Food: Bring appetizer/salad, main dishes and dessert
Due to some allergies and dietary concerns, please label your food dish with “gluten free,” “vegetarian” if applicable, and provide a list of all ingredients in your food contribution. Information will be provided closer to the date about drop off instructions, etc. so please include your email address when signing up.
Gifts: Contribute a gift or money towards a gift
We would like to give all the staff a small gift of a giftcard or a bottle of wine, but we need your help. Please consider donating either 1) a bottle of wine, 2) a gift card of a modest amount or 3) a monetary donation for the PAC to purchase gifts.
Please put all cash or gift cards in envelopes in the PAC mailbox under the stairs. Clearly mark ‘Staff Appreciation Lunch Donations’ on the envelopes. Please bring the wine bottles (with a note saying ‘for SAL’) to the office as they are not allowed in the hallway. Donations accepted until Friday, June 7th. If you have a gift that’s not wine and doesn’t fit in the mailbox, please contact Christy Gold at the email address below.
Time: Volunteer some time to help that day
You can also help out with event set up, lunch hour playground supervision, or event clean-up.
Questions: Please contact Christy at firstname.lastname@example.org
There are many ways that we need your support to make this year’s SpringFEST fundraising event a great success.
Mystery Bag Prize Wheel
Look out for your children bringing home paper bags to fill and return to be part of the Mystery Bag Prize Wheel. Click for full intructions . We ask for filled bags to be returned by May 24.
Pizza at SpringFEST – order through Munch-a-Lunch
Want to feed the family at SpringFEST? We’ve teamed up with Fresh Slice to provide fresh pizza – order by the slice or a whole pizza. Order before May 28 through munchalunch.com under the “Fundraising Open” tab. Pre-ordering ensures you get the pizzas you want (pick-up between 5-6pm) and receive better value than buying on the evening. Please place your orders under one child’s name if possible.
Pre-purchase SpringFEST activity tickets
Avoid the lines and pre-purchase the event’s activity tickets through munchalunch.com. All activities, food and drink are paid for by tickets on the evening. Purchase 20 tickets at a time and pick up before or after school on May 30/31.
Cake walk donations
Get your bake on – please bring in cakes, cupcakes and other baked goods to the school on the morning of May 31. Do remember everything should be nut-free.
Thanks for all of those that have volunteered so far to help run the activities. See more details from your class rep and secure your volunteer time slot through SignUpGenius.
