Here is the schedule of upcoming after school programs offered for the Spring term 2019 at Ross Road Elementary.
Many new classes have been added (there are 2 options on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and these classes have all been organized and coordinated by our school PAC. This is a new initiative for this year so we’d love to hear your feedback.
MONDAYS
BRICKS4KIDS – Junior Robotics
Grades 1-5
April 8 – June 10 (7 sessions; no class April 22nd, May 6 or May 20th)

Program Description: In the Robotics programming kids turn their LEGO creation into a robot, program it to do exactly what you tell it to do. This program offers all the fun of building with LEGO Bricks, plus the challenge of computer programming! The kids will use drag-and-drop, icon-based software; the WeDo software provides an introduction to the world of computer programming and robotics that will equip children to succeed in a technology-based marketplace.

TUESDAYS (2 options)
3-Point Basketball
Grades K-1
April 9 – June 11 (10 session)
3:00-4:00pm at Ross Road School – Gym
$165.00 (10% discount if you register before Spring Break)
Program Description: We are excited to be launching our after school co-ed basketball program at Ross Road this spring. Our purpose is to encourage and develop fundamental basketball skills in a positive learning team environment. 3Pointbasketball was established in 2014 and is now participating in 9 schools across the North Shore. Our program is designed for the primary grade levels.
Registered students receive: 3PB t-shirt, basketball, and a healthy smoothie.

Yoga with Erin Bjornson
Grades 2-7
April 9 – June 11 (10 session)
3:00-4:00pm at Ross Road School – Music Room
$195.00 (+ 19.70 fees and GST)
Program Description: Come for a fun and relaxing class of kids yoga! Learn how to move your body in sun salutations, hold poses like tree pose, and relax in breath work and savasana.
It is recommended for students to bring their own mats, however a few will be provided

WEDNESDAYS
Studio Art Perspectives – North Vancouver Perspectives
Grades 3-7
April 10 – June 12 (10 sessions)
(Class will run from 2:00-4:00 for early dismissal day on May 29, 2019)
3:00-5:00pm at Ross Road School – Music Room

Program Description: Through painting, drawing and mixed media, artists will learn about studio-based arts practices and techniques. Together students will be encouraged to express themselves and learn about art making as a process through exploration of line, shape, texture, colour, value, space and form. A Canadian perspective, with a focus on the culture and history of North Vancouver, will be emphasized.
BC’s New Curriculum, Arts Education 7, Big Ideas:
- Through art making, one’s sense of identity and community continually evolves
- Experiencing art challenges our point of view and expands our understanding of others
- Visual art is a unique language for creating and communicating

Girls with Grit for Girls; Grades 5-7
April 11 – June 13 (10 sessions)

Program Description: Let’s raise a generation of girls who are mentally happy and healthy, who know it’s okay to be strong and soft at the same time, who know how to deal with adversity, and who are totally in-tune with their unique awesome-ness.
At Girls with Grit, we use movement to show how strong our bodies are, mindful meditation (aka #braintrain) to show how strong our spirits are, and awesome crafts to show how strong our creative sparks are. We also talk about real topics like friendships, stress, pressure, stereotypes, technology, compassion, empathy and what being an awesome girl is really all about. Oh yeah – we also laugh alot!
Girls with Grit offers scholarships donated by past Grit parents – please inquire!

FRIDAYS
First Nations Art with Gordon Dick
Grades 1-5
April 26 – May 31 (6 sessions)
3:15-4:45pm at Ross Road School – Music Room

Program Description: Join Gordon Dick from the Tsleil-Waututh Nation to learn basic Coast Salish shapes, find out about spirit animals and create your own indigenous animal.

Valet is still looking for occasional parent helpers. It’s just 30 minutes of your time and it helps keep kids and parents safe.
