Online survey of School District 10-Year Strategic Plan!

The North Vancouver School District is in the process of writing a new 10-Year Strategic Plan on the goals and values that should guide the School District over the next decade. As you may have read in the email sent out by the school over the weekend, they are inviting the public to participate in an online survey in this connection. The survey is open from Nov. 10 to November 16.

Parent input is important in this process, so we would encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and spend a few minutes filling out the survey.

Alternatively, go to the www.nvsd44.bc.ca website and open the first link under “Meetings and Updates” (titled: “November 10th, 2010 update: Survey now open on high-level goals and values for the 10-Year Strategic Plan”).

Thank you for your participation!

Fall 2010 Ross Road Night Out — an overwhelming success!

The Community rose to the occasion, showed up and had an absolutely fantastic night laughing, dancing and having fun! We raised $3950 to purchase new gym equipment for the students of Ross Road Elementary!  A huge Thank You to Michele Ferguson who organized the event and to everyone who sold tickets, donated auction items,  and came out on a wet Saturday night – it was an amazing time! Watch your emails for news announcing the Spring 2011 Ross Road Night Out.

Also, Christmas craft workshops for older kids and adults! Back due to popular demand: Children’s crafts, the Wandering Minstrels Café, coffee, tea & hot chocolate, great Christmas baking, and an Amazing Raffle. For more details about this year’s event, click here, and stay tuned for more up-to-date info as we get closer to the big day!

This is one of our major events of the year, serving both as a Fundraiser and a great Community builder. We really hope to see you there! Any questions, please contact Carolyn Sluis at rcsluis@shaw.ca.

Once again the ever-popular class baskets will be at the Christmas Craft Fair…to be raffled off to 20 lucky winners! Back by popular demand is the “Legoland Extreme” themed basket, and a few new ones! Click here to see the full list. Class reps will be asking for contributions to their respective class baskets so please them out by getting any donations (physical items or cash) to them by November 13th, to give them time to make purchases and to assemble everything into wonderfully eye-catching presentations!

Front garden transformation!

Anyone walking past the front of the school will have noticed the wonderful transformation that the front garden has undergone – from overgrown shrubbery to an elegant green space! And there is more to come…paths, logs and bird houses are all part of the grand plan!

This is all thanks to Susan Chalmers who headed up this huge job. She and a dedicated group of parents have spent many days digging up weeds, preparing the ground and putting in new plantings. A huge Thank You to Susan and everyone who helped out (you know who you are!) in so many ways: digging, pruning, planting, hauling, transporting, watering, as well as lending tools and donating plants, stones and other garden materials.

Everyone benefits from this beautiful area so it is very exciting to see the horticultural changes that are taking place within it! If it weren’t for them, the front garden would have been paved over by the school board, so the Ross Road community is so grateful to these green thumbs (and strong arms!) for all of their hard work!

Fabulous Cross-Country Season!

We had a large number of students running and their good spirit and excellent sportsmanship is a credit to Ross Road. Of course, the weather was tremendous also. Ms. Frazee and Mme Tancon would like to thank our dedicated parent volunteers who made it possible to run some interesting trails. We would also like to thank Keith Nicoll for leading the students in their warm up at the meets and doing a big part with some of the set up for the meets. We look forward to seeing many of you out there next year. Well done Team Ross Road!

8:40 Morning Bell Reminder

A reminder from the office to parents that the first morning bell is at 8:40. At that time, children should be on the grounds and ready to enter the building. The second bell is at 8:45. At that time, students should be seated and ready to start the day! The office has been signing in many, many late students lately and this interferes with a smooth, stress-free and pleasant start to the day. Please make sure that your child is at school on time in the morning!
