We’re back!
Our annual Ross Road Kilometer Club is back. This year, the club will start on Monday March 30th. All K-7 students, parents and siblings are invited to come and participate in this event. It is a great opportunity to increase your fitness level, challenge yourself to reach a certain Km goal, and for parents to ensure their children are getting some DPA (daily physical activity).
Running takes place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 20 minutes from 8:05 (warm up for 5 minutes) to 8:30 on the field for a total of 15 running days (end mid/end of May). Runners receive popsicle sticks for each lap. The number of sticks collected will in turn be recorded on class lists at the end of the run (3 white popsicle sticks = 1 coloured stick; 1 coloured stick = 1 km).
Ribbons will be awarded for specific distances attained (5, 10, …. Km). Upon completion of the season, total distances will be tallied and medals will be awarded as follows:
Grade K: 25 km
Grades 1-3: 50 km
Grades 4-7: 75 Km
This year, we are fortunate to be having the visit of Run Van Ambassador Michelle Ford, who is the co-founder of the Fraser Street Run Club. Michelle will be supporting our school program on a couple of Wednesdays.
Please consider volunteering your time. We will need parents/guardians handing out popsicle sticks during the run and tallying distances at the end of each run. If you have any questions regarding the club, please contact Angela Tancon at atancon@sd44.ca. We look forward to seeing many of you out there, rain or shine :).
