Reminder from the Emergency Preparedness Committee

A few weeks ago, a notice went home about the Emergency Preparedness Committee, with a request for a $2 (or more) contribution per child to help keep our emergency supplies replenished and up-to-date. If you didn’t receive the form or haven’t sent your contribution in, please drop it off with your child’s teacher or at the office.

Thank you for all you for all the cash contributions to date, and also for the donations of Canadian Tire money! This form of “currency” will be used to purchase more emergency supplies and is always welcome! Just drop off any “bills” at the office. Thanks again!

Peanut Allergy Alert: Quaker Canada Issues National Voluntary Recall

Here’s an important message from Quaker Canada that was sent to all school boards:

“Dear School Board Association Representative:

We are hoping that you can assist us with the dissemination of information to the appropriate individuals within your School Board Association regarding a voluntary product recall.

As you will see in the attached notice, Quaker Canada has issued a voluntary recall of 14 count Quaker Chewy Granola Bars Value Pack cartons that may have been mislabeled.  No other packages of Quaker bars or Quaker products are affected.  This product should not be consumed by those who have a peanut or tree nut allergy.

Quaker Canada is working closely with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Anaphylaxis Canada, the Allergy & Asthma Information Association and their network groups to ensure the public is notified. The company is also working diligently to remove any mislabeled product from the marketplace, and we wish to assure our valued consumers that this situation will be remedied as quickly as possible.

We would appreciate any support you could provide to share this information with those who need to know.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Christmas Craft Fair 2010 a huge success!

Wow, we know how to throw a Christmas Party! We don’t think we could have crammed another person into the school. Happy children, busy parents, Santa Claus, homemade goodies and hot chocolate, what more could you possibly wish for? Our brand new Panto was a resounding success – the actors shone and the audience loved it!

Financially, we did well, too! We raised $5900 in Craft/Panto/Bake Table tickets and $3500 in Raffle Tickets alone. $3500!!! We therefore grossed over $8,000. Once expenses have been totalled, we’ll be able to give you the final figure, but it’s clear that we had a very successful Craft Fair!

Congratulations to all the lucky raffle basket winners! Complete list of who won what is on display in the lobby.

Thank you everyone for helping put together the amazing raffle baskets with your class reps, volunteering with your time and talents, buying tickets, and of course, attending this fantastic event! The Christmas Craft Fair is one of our major fundraisers for the Ross Road community and all proceeds will go to make the school a better place for all of our kids!

Christmas Craft Fair – a note about tickets

The Christmas Craft Fair pricelist has been emailed, displayed throughout the school, and posted online so that you can have an idea of what’s available at the Craft Fair before arriving on the big night!

This year they will be lined up along the hallway near the gym so make sure to check them out on Friday night! For those of you who are new to the Fair, here’s how the raffle works. You buy raffle tickets, write your name and telephone number on each ticket, peruse the baskets, then put tickets in the box corresponding to the basket you’d like to win. At 8pm the winning numbers are called out! (We’d love you to stay for the whole evening, but you do not need to be present to win!)

Calling all performers: let’s show that Ross Road has talent!
